Hello,

With the push for increased efficiency, and thus higher temperatures in power plants, I have wondered why steam has continued to be used in turbines? Now, the pushing for 600 and 700 Celsius coal power plants. Coal gasification occurs at temperatures over 1,000 Celsius. If steam is so problemic, why not use some other fluid than steam to get the super high temperatures, so different, higher temperature materials can be used in turbines? The only alternative that comes to mind is helium turbines planned for the very high temperature pebble bed reactors.
